We offer classes for adults, teens and children.  Our class sessions run Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.
Please check back as we update our class offerings seasonally and occasionally add additional classes!

Please note: No refunds will be issued after first class/day of camp. Compensation for missed classes is not available. Refunds for classes & workshops given if cancelled one week prior.  Memberships are non-refundable.

    Adult

    Students will explore the fundamentals of light and landscapes as well as a variety of techniques to communicate a scene concisely with watercolor. The goal is give students the tools necessary to sketch anywhere and anytime. (Materials will be discussed at first class. If you have a small sketchbook, please bring it. A notebook is helpful too!)

    Adult

    Bring your expressive side to life with acrylics. You will learn how to mix acrylic paints while bringing various techniques into your work. You will leave the class with the skills you need to create beautiful, vibrant expressionist paintings. This class is for the adventurous who want to have fun with color!  All levels welcome.  This class is good for the beginner/intermediate student.  Materials list below.

    Douglas Brown paints with a focus on controlled realism, and you can learn the secrets of his technique. Each class will start with a short demo of the subject of the week. All students will receive individual attention and will work at his or her own pace.     Explore the special properties of watercolor using unexpected materials. We will also cover universal concepts such as color, composition, and value.     Have you ever told yourself “I can’t draw”? This class was created to dispel that myth! Anyone can learn to draw, with the right tools & the right instruction. Over the course of six sessions, I will teach you the basics of how to use pencils, charcoal, and other dry media to create a drawing from observation. The class will focus primarily on still life, the most approachable subject when learning to draw. You’ll surprise yourself with how far you can come in just a few weeks!  Materials list can be found below.

    Materials list: 

    Acrylic paints, studio or student quality, 2 oz tubes in the following colors

    Alizarin crimson, cadmium red medium, cadmium yellow, yellow ocher, ultramarine blue, cobalt blue, pthalo green, hooker’s green, prism violet, burnt sienna, burnt umber, raw umber, mars black, titanium white 

    Painter’s palette (wood, acrylic, or disposable pad)

    Selection of 8-10 brushes, both natural bristle and acrylic, in FLAT and ROUND. Ensure you have a variety of sizes between 2-16, including a flat brush between size 16-30 for broad strokes and underpainting. 

    9”x12” canvas pad (paper)

    3-4 stretched canvases OR hardboard canvas panels, between 16”x20” and 20”x24” (feel free to go slightly larger if you prefer to work big)

    Palette knife

    1-2 glass jars or large mugs with wide mouth

    Acrylic medium (matte or gloss)

    Always wanted to try your hand at watercolor painting but don't know how to begin? This 6 week class will take through the basics of what supplies you will need, what painting techniques are unique to watercolor and the step by step process of completing watercolor paintings.     Being able to draw what you "see" is the foundation for other art experiences. This class will work on building up your drawing skills through observational exercises that will improve your realistic drawings. This class is for all levels of ability especially those who say they can't draw!  All materials included.

    Remember how fun art class was and how you enjoyed painting? You want to try it again, but don't know where to begin? This class will introduce you to watercolor, acrylic and oil painting using the Art Center's supplies. We will compare the media, supplies and techniques as we enjoy painting again.  All materials included.

    Ages 16-Adult

    This class will cover the entire lettering process from pencil sketch to inked drawing to digital* finish. We'll start with the basics of drawing individual letterforms and work up to creating your own hand lettered illustrations based on briefs given in class each week. Chock full of tips and tools for creating concept-driven pieces, there will be in-class demonstrations and one-on-one instructor critiques. This class is perfect for beginners wanting to learn the basics as well as intermediate students looking to dive deeper into incorporating hand lettering in their professional work. Please bring materials to work in class each week: drawing paper, graph paper, pencils, fine and broad tip markers/Sharpies, tracing paper and ruler.

    *Digital processes will be taught, but are optional for creating work for this class. If desired, students would need access to a scanning app on their phone and Photoshop.

    Ages 14-Adult     

    Have you ever wanted to try painting but were too intimidated? Intrigued by color but reluctant to commit to the cost and care of oil painting? Whether you’ve dabbled in paints a couple of times or have never touched a brush to a canvas before, you will feel more confident & capable once you have explored the basics of color theory and familiarized yourself with materials and techniques while completing a painting from life. This five-session course will take you from creating a color wheel and learning about value and saturation of colors, to mixing and color matching, to painting a still-life. Don’t ever tell yourself you “can’t” do it–you can, with the right approach!  Materials list can be found below or if you have your own supplies, feel free to bring them to class instead.

    We will study tulips, daffodils, crocus, or any other spring flower that is available and then will complete a larger than life drawing with colored pencils on 9x12 or 14x17 paper. Instructor will supply transfer paper and the large paper. Materials list below.
