We offer classes for adults, teens and children.  Our class sessions run Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.
Please check back as we update our class offerings seasonally and occasionally add additional classes!

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF CLASS REGISTRATION DEADLINES.  If you wish to register for a class after the deadline, please contact the NHAC Office (412) 364-3622 or visit the center at 3432 Babcock Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. 

Please note: No refunds will be issued after first class/day of camp. Compensation for missed classes is not available. Refunds for classes & workshops given if cancelled one week prior.  Memberships are non-refundable.

    Adult

    This class for all levels of experience will incorporate aspects of both hand building and wheel throwing. Beginners through advanced students are welcome to hone their skills from building and throwing to the glazing process. Come enjoy an exciting clay-filled evening.   Class fee includes clay, glaze, firing & use of tools.

    Have you always wanted to learn to make pottery on the wheel? Do you like making things by hand? Do both! In this class we will use hand building techniques and the wheel to make mugs, bowls, vases and other forms of your choice.     Ages 12-Adult

    Frustrated about how your pottery pieces come out of the kiln? See pottery techniques you wish you could apply to your pottery? This mini class will explore the wide variety of glazing and decorating techniques for pottery. We will cover what a glaze is, how pottery is fired, ways to apply glazes, decorating techniques and specialty glazes and firing methods.  Class fee includes clay, glaze, firing, and use of tools.

    **Students who attend Open Studio Pottery may bring additional bisque fired pieces to the glaze sessions

Making bells is fun and designing various handles is a great creative opportunity. Come join an enjoyable clay experience! Make up to 5 bells in this class.  Ask about accessibility options!     Ages 7-12

    With the Holidays approaching, now is the time to create one of a kind handmade gifts to give to special persons in your life. You will be working with clay using the slab building technique to create a special lidded box and a decorated mug. You will come back for a second session to put the finishing touches on your pieces with a large selection of bright, colorful glazes. The pieces will be food, microwave, and dishwasher safe.  All materials included.

    This sculptural class is a great introduction for students to the main approaches towards sculpting clay. We will cover coil-building, slab-building, wheel-thrown sculpture and other techniques in this hands-on experience. This class is perfect for students of all skill levels who want to learn new sculpting skills or improve on existing ones!   Ask about accessibility options!  Class fee includes clay, glaze, firing, and use of tools.
