We offer classes for adults, teens and children.  Our class sessions run Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.
Please check back as we update our class offerings seasonally and occasionally add additional classes!

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF CLASS REGISTRATION DEADLINES.  If you wish to register for a class after the deadline, please contact the NHAC Office (412) 364-3622 or visit the center at 3432 Babcock Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. 

Please note: No refunds will be issued after first class/day of camp. Compensation for missed classes is not available. Refunds for classes & workshops given if cancelled one week prior.  Memberships are non-refundable.

    Ages 12-Adult

    Frustrated about how your pottery pieces come out of the kiln? See pottery techniques you wish you could apply to your pottery? This mini class will explore the wide variety of glazing and decorating techniques for pottery. We will cover what a glaze is, how pottery is fired, ways to apply glazes, decorating techniques and specialty glazes and firing methods.  Class fee includes clay, glaze, firing, and use of tools.

    **Students who attend Open Studio Pottery may bring additional bisque fired pieces to the glaze sessions

    Ages 7-12

    With the Holidays approaching, now is the time to create one of a kind handmade gifts to give to special persons in your life. You will be working with clay using the slab building technique to create a special lidded box and a decorated mug. You will come back for a second session to put the finishing touches on your pieces with a large selection of bright, colorful glazes. The pieces will be food, microwave, and dishwasher safe.  All materials included.

    This class is for students of all skill levels to come and progress their clay skills, or learn new ones! Beginners are welcome to learn the basics of either the wheel, hand building or a combination of the two. If you would like to learn something new, or improve on past works in ceramics, this class is right for you.     This sculptural class is a great introduction for students to the main approaches towards sculpting clay. We will cover coil-building, slab-building, wheel-thrown sculpture and other techniques in this hands-on experience.     If you have always wanted to try the wheel, hand build, or need a refresher, this class is for you. Students will create various clay projects of their own choice in a relaxed studio with personal attention. Stoneware and Raku clay available. The last class focuses on glazing.
