We offer classes for adults, teens and children.  Our class sessions run Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.
Please check back as we update our class offerings seasonally and occasionally add additional classes!

Children’s classes are designed to be age appropriate to give your child the best experience possible.


PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF CLASS REGISTRATION DEADLINES.  If you wish to register for a class after the deadline, please contact the NHAC Office (412) 364-3622 or visit the center at 3432 Babcock Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. 

Please note: No refunds will be issued after first class/day of camp. Compensation for missed classes is not available. Refunds for classes & workshops given if cancelled one week prior.  Memberships are non-refundable. 

**Registrations not finalized within 24 hours are automatically removed as classes have limited space.

    Learn the basics of cartooning in this six week course with professional cartoonist/illustrator George Broderick, Jr. From creating original characters using basic, simple shapes to inking, lettering and coloring your drawings for that “professional” touch, the next GREAT comic character could be just a few pencil lines away. Please bring: pencils, ruler, eraser, one thick & one thin Sharpie marker, white sketch paper, colored pencils and colored markers to class.

    We all enjoy creating with clay. We will be using the hand building techniques to create a variety of functional & decorative clay pieces. The last class will be spent glazing the pieces.  Class fee includes clay, glaze and firing.

    Ages 9-12 (or students who have completed Cartooning Basics)

    This course is designed for cartooning students who have taken Cartooning Basics and want to progress (taking Cartooning Basics first is suggested, but not necessary).     Did you know that the primary colors of pigment are the secondary colors of light? What would happen if you painted a picture of the rainbow, then held it under pure, red light? What about green? Blue? What happens when you mix red and green light? This is an exploratory workshop that will give a simple, fun answer to these questions! All materials included.

    This workshop is centered around the concept of process-based art. Kids will be engaged in paint exploration and creative play by using a variety of materials to create a painting including: forks, toy cars, sponges, blocks, and other mark making tools. No paintbrushes allowed!  All materials included.

    Make your own 3D board game with your own characters to take home. Use clay, paint, recycled materials and more to make your game come alive. Invent a new outdoor game to play with friends! Create a new card game! You make the rules.  All materials included.

    Create a hand painted silk tie and a Shibori dyed silk scarf to give as gifts to special people in your life. We will explore colors that go well together and folding techniques to create intricate patterns.  All materials included.

    With the Holidays approaching, now is the time to create one of a kind handmade gifts to give to special persons in your life. You will be working with clay using the slab building technique to create a special lidded box and a decorated mug. You will come back for a second session to put the finishing touches on your pieces with a large selection of bright, colorful glazes. The pieces will be food, microwave, and dishwasher safe.  All materials included.
