Registration

  • Please choose this option only if you have a current NHAC membership. Choosing this option without a current membership delays finalizing your registration. Thank you.
  • Please choose this option if you do not have a current NHAC membership. If you are registering a student (grades k thru 12), please consider the $20 yearly student membership-it's the same cost as the $20 non-member fee! As an adult signing up for more than one class, it will cost less to add a yearly membership instead of paying the non-member fee for each class! Please click on the MEMBERSHIP tab for more information. Thank you.

Registration deadline: September 28

Adult

A still life tells a story, and this will be one that you choose, whether food, decorations, plants, family, etc. This colored pencil work can be framed for a gift or made into cards. We will begin with focus on the composition, and then proceed to finalize the layout and then completion. Further detail on choosing objects for your composition will be sent after registration and prior to the first session. You may use watercolor pencils in addition to regular colored pencils if you choose.   Materials list below.

Instructor: Jeanne Perrier

Dates: Wednesdays 10/5-10/26

4 sessions

Time: 9:30am - 12:30pm

Materials List:

Colored Pencils: It is wise to use artist quality pencils as they make a huge difference. The least expensive brand is Prismacolor, but other artist quality pencils are fine, such as Derwent, Faber Castell, Caran D’Ache and others. I will have individual pencils that I will bring to the class in the event anyone wants to purchase any. Please have your pencils sharpened before coming to class, and be sure to sharpen the end without the name of the color.

Paper: Bristol Vellum is a very good paper for colored pencil. There are a number of manufacturers of this. Strathmore and Canson are two that are widely available. Legion Stonehenge is also an excellent paper, and most hot press watercolor papers are fine too. Please note that we will work out the composition and then transfer it to the good paper, so drawing paper can be used for the initial composition work.

Erasers: Please have a white plastic eraser and a kneaded eraser, and a box of scotch brand cellophane tape. This is in the red tape holder.

Pencil Sharpener: Electric, battery, or manual are ok.

Graphite Pencils: You will need one or two mid range graphite pencils, such as HB or 2H or F. No particular brand is needed for this.

Ruler: Any old ruler will do. 6” is enough.

Instructor will provide small use items such as tracing paper, transfer paper, etc, as needed. If you like using it you can always get some for yourself.

Please note that the quality of your pencils will affect the resulting artwork. Student quality is not the same as artist quality and will not be as effective.
