"Experience the Arts with Us!"

**Memberships are 'individual' memberships covering ONE student (except for family memberships) .  You can ONLY register the person who has the membership at the member rate (except for family memberships) for classes.  Friends can be registered as a non-member is a SEPERATE transaction.  Registering at the member rate without a membership delays your registration.  You must be fully paid before registration is complete.

If you need help after office hours, please see these tips.  Thank you!

**Classes are listed by date.  Please scroll down for newest additions.

Use the search box to quickly find the classes you need!

We offer classes for adults, teens and children.  Our class sessions run Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.
Please check back as we update our class offerings seasonally and occasionally add additional classes!

**You can add a 'guest'  to your member registration if your 'guest' is also a member

(for example, for those that have family, patron, etc. memberships which include more than one person in the membership).

If the 'guest' you are adding does NOT have a membership, you will need to register them in a separate transaction from your member rate transaction, and register them as a non-member.  Registering them as a member delays their registration as all registrations must be paid in full before they are considered final.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF CLASS REGISTRATION DEADLINES.  If you wish to register for a class after the deadline, please contact the NHAC Office (412) 364-3622 or visit the center at 3432 Babcock Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.

Please note: No refunds/credits will be issued after first class/day of camp. Compensation/makeups for missed classes is not available. Refunds for classes & workshops given if cancelled one week prior.  Memberships are non-refundable.

**Payment required upon registration. Registrations not finalized within 15 minutes are automatically removed as classes have limited space.

The art of grisaille was first developed during the Renaissance. It is a process by which the toning of a drawing is completed first, and then the color is added. This accomplished 3 things: improved form of subject, reduced use of color, and speed of completion. Join us for a one day workshop where we will try various approaches to this technique.  Materials list below.

    Date: Saturday 1/21

    1 session

    Time: 9:00am - 3:00pm

    Materials List:

Please bring the following Prismacolor pencils or equivilent:

Lemon Yellow # 915, Apple Green # 912, Grass Green # 909, Parrot Green # 1006, True Blue # 903, Imperial Violet, #1007, Violet # 932, Mulberry # 995,  Magenta #930, Poppy Red # 922, Orange # 918, Yellowed Orange # 1002, White # 938, Black # 935, Sepia # 948, and a colorless blender. Also bring a graphite pencil, HB or 2H, kneaded eraser, a white plastic eraser, Strathmore or Canson Bristol vellum paper around 8X10 or 9x12, tracing paper,  and a pencil sharpener. If your pencils are new please sharpen them prior to class, and be sure to sharpen the end opposite the color name and number.

    Colorless blender

Also bring a kneaded eraser, a white plastic eraser, Strathmore or Canson Bristol vellum paper around 9x12 or 10x14, and a pencil sharpener. If your pencils are new please sharpen them prior to class, and be sure to sharpen the end opposite the color name and number. A clipboard will make a very nice drawing board if your paper is 9X12.

The list I am giving you is very basic and allows you to mix further colors. I am suggesting Prismacolor pencils, as they are easier to find that many European brands. If you have a set of artist quality pencils, such as Faber Castell Polychromos, or Derwent, these should be just fine. The point is to have artist quality with which to work.

"Kurinuki" is a Japanese method of hand making pottery. It means "hollowing out". In this workshop, you will experience a new way of making pottery by carving out the forms from solid blocks of clay. This contemplative process allows the maker to connect with the clay body in a new, ancient way. We will explore the addition of textures and finish the pottery with glazing techniques that will enhance the textural surfaces. No clay experience needed. All materials included.
