We offer classes for adults, teens and children.  Our class sessions run Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.
Please check back as we update our class offerings seasonally and occasionally add additional classes!

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF CLASS REGISTRATION DEADLINES.  If you wish to register for a class after the deadline, please contact the NHAC Office (412) 364-3622 or visit the center at 3432 Babcock Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. 

 

Please note: No refunds/credits will be issued after first class/day of camp. Compensation for missed classes is not available. Refunds for classes & workshops given if cancelled one week prior.  Memberships are non-refundable.

    Experienced potters may work at their own pace and are encouraged to work on the wheel or do hand building. Clay and glazes sold through the studio. **Please note: you must completed a 5 or 6 week pottery class to join this Open Studio Session as there is  NO INSTRUCTION GIVEN First floor studio.

    New molds!! Learn to create stunning fused glass pendants, earrings and pins. Beginner and experienced glass artists can make up to 8 pieces of wearable art. Class includes tips on the use of dichroic glass, layering glass, and using frits and stringers. You can create both full and tack fused pieces!

    Ages 14 to Adult

    Explore the beautiful art of indigo dyeing using the Japanese technique of Shibori. Using the deep blue indigo dye that has been used for centuries, and some of the Shibori techniques of Kumo, Arashi, Itajime, Ne-Maki, Sekka, Mokume and others to create your one of a kind textiles. You will have access to poles, marbles, clamps, rubber bands, rope and wood to create your patterns. Choose from a 20"x20" cotton square or a silk scarf and bring an item of your choice to dye!

    Please bring:

    Please note-the item must be WHITE and 100% cotton, rayon, linen, bamboo, wool or silk.

    Ages 12-Adult

    Fall is here and you need some new decorations! Using some hand building techniques (no experience needed), you will create clay pumpkins and gourds for your fall decor. We will have the real thing to look at for inspiration as we form our pieces. Once the pieces have been bisque fired, you will return to add the finishing touches as you apply the ceramic glazes. The pieces will be fired again and will be ready for you to pick up before Halloween! NO CLAY EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.  All materials included

    Ages 12-Adult

    Create a hand built basket with strips of interwoven clay. Students have the option of uniquely finishing the top of the bowl with clay decorations, adding a handle. and selecting a glaze that will be fired on the basket. The baskets will then be ready for your decorated eggs, candy, fruit, etc.  All materials included.

    In anticipation of Spring & Easter, Pysanky are a tradition in Eastern Europe. This batik method of applying layers of beeswax and egg dye to the eggs creates intricate and beautiful designs. In this workshop you will create up to 4 eggs depending on the intricacy, and learn about the symbolism of the designs and colors. Hot wax is used in this class.

    Just in time for winter! Learn how to form and combine pinch pots to create a snowman sculpture. Students will also learn additive, subtractive and texture sculpture techniques. Our snowman will be finished with colorful underglazes. NO CLAY EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.  All materials included
