Interested in art quilting but not so interested in sewing? Come and find out what fusible materials can do to move your fiber art away from traditional materials and techniques. We will design and produce a small wall quilt while decreasing the need for the more tedious aspects of quilt making. Fusible products will be provided. Materials list below.

    • 4 fat quarters of quilters cotton. Stick to solid colors or near-solids. These fabrics will be for your background, backing and binding. Since the demise of Joann’s, you may have to go to a quilt shop to get these. Nearest is Quilting Needle in Hampton.
    • Straight pins.
    • Fabric Scissors.  Also bring small ones if you have them.
    • Craft tweezers

We will have a zoom meeting at least 2 weeks before class to answer any questions and give you some ideas for fabrics, if you need to buy them. Do your best to come to the meeting.

We will cover the entire process of making and finishing a pre-designed table topper or small wall quilt, from fabric selection through to the last stitch of the binding. If you’ve wanted to learn to quilt, or you’ve been quilting but are unsure of your skills, this is a chance to get up and running or hone those skills. Bring a sewing machine in good working order which can be left at the art center for the duration of the class. Materials list below.

    Instructor: Stacy Koehler

    Dates: Monday through Friday, 8/10 - 8/14 (5 sessions)
    Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

    Materials List
    Students will be responsible for:

      • 6 fabrics (1/2 yard each of 5, a full yard of one)
      • A small amount of some scrap fabric, ½ yard or less
      • Fabric scissors
      • A 45 mm rotary cutter (Don't buy a new one if you have another size.)
      • A new blade for your rotary cutter
      • A 6 x 24 inch acrylic ruler made for use with rotary cutting
      • Seam ripper. If you have your great aunt Tillie’s, buy a new one
      • A spool of light to medium grey thread
      • Straight pins
      • If you have a rotary cutting mat, bring it.  If not, some will be provided. Don’t put out the money for one until you know you want to keep quilting.
      • Very Important! A sewing machine in good working order. What that means:
      - You’ve gotten it out, set it up and have sewn on it for 10 minutes sometime in the last 6 months. You do not want to find out that it doesn’t run well when you get to class.
      - You have cleaned it and oiled it in the week before class.
      - It has a new needle and you bring extra needles to class.
      - If you have an open toes foot and a walking foot, bring them to class.  If you have feet, but don’t know what they are, bring them to class and maybe we can figure it out. The feet are nice to have, but are not required.
      - You have your machine’s manual. Bring it with you, or have a link to its on-line manual on your phone.

We will have a zoom meeting at least 2 weeks before class to answer any questions and give you some ideas for fabrics, if you need to buy them. Do your best to come to the meeting.
