Suede board offers a texture that is different from paper and it is particularly effective when you are drawing fur.  Great detail can be achieved while maintaining a softness.  Bring a drawing or a copy of a photo of your favorite furry animal and experiment with suede board.  Materials list below.

      Time: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

      Materials List:

This list is basic and allows you to mix further colors. I suggest Prismacolor pencils. If you do not have any pencils, a set of 24 would be good. If you have Faber Castell, Polychromos, Caran D'Ache, Royal Talens, or Derwent pencils these should be just fine. The point is to have artist quality with which to work.

Please bring an assortment of Prismacolor pencils, including white and sepia. Also bring a graphite pencil, HB or 2H, kneaded eraser, a white plastic eraser, and ruler. If your pencils are new please sharpen them prior to class, and be sure to sharpen the end opposite the color name and number. Also bring a drawing or photo that will fit on an 8x10 paper.  The suede board, transfer paper and tracing paper will be provided by the instructor.

"Kurinuki" is a Japanese method of hand making pottery. It means "hollowing out". In this workshop, you will experience a new way of making pottery by carving out the forms from solid blocks of clay. This contemplative process allows the maker to connect with the clay body in a new, ancient way. We will explore the addition of textures and finish the pottery with glazing techniques that will enhance the textural surfaces. No clay experience needed. All materials included.

In this fused glass workshop, you will cut strips of glass to be positioned in such a way as to create an open lace or coral-like bowl, The strips of glass are overlapped to connect each piece, leaving small openings.  The bowl will be slumped over a round mold to complete the bowl. All materials included.

Explore colored pencils and some of the effects you can create in using them. This workshop offers a foundation for the various pencil techniques used. The morning includes basics and the afternoon addresses more specialized work. Bring a lunch! Materials list below.

        Instructor: Jeanne Perrier

        Date: Saturday, 8/17

        Time: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

        Materials List:

This list I am giving you is very basic and allows you to mix further colors. I suggest Prismacolor pencils as they are easier to find than many of the European brands.  If you have a set of artist quality pencils such as Faber Castell Polychromos or Derwent, those would be fine.  The point is to have artist quality with which to work.

Please bring the following: Lemon Yellow #915, Apple Green #912, Grass Green #909, Parrot Green #1006, True Blue #903, Imperial Violet #1007, Violet #932, Mulberry #995, Magenta #930, Poppy Red #922, Orange #918, and Yellowed Orange #1002.  Please also bring a graphite pencil, HB or 2H, a kneaded eraser, a white plastic eraser and a pencil sharpener.  Please have your pencils sharpened before class and sharpen the end opposite the color name and number.
