    Learn how to make beautiful, artistic books that can become journals, sketchbooks, albums and more. This is not a scrapbooking class. Beginner Bookbinding will explain what tools are necessary, what's nice to have and what will work for books. You'll learn how to determine what materials to use and how to handle them. Basic paper folding, building a punching cradle and simple sewn books will all be covered.  You will leave with books, handouts and both local and online resources for future projects. All materials included.

    Douglas Brown paints with a focus on controlled realism, and you can learn the secrets of his technique. Each class will start with a short demo of the subject of the week. Students will receive individual attention and will work at his or her own pace. Some watercolor knowledge recommended.

    Embark on a creative journey that merges the ancient art of Gyotaku printing with the expressive medium of watercolor painting.     Join us for a creative, welcoming environment where you'll develop your printmaking skills. Get inspired and prepare your submission for the upcoming PrintX: Pittsburgh Print Exchange & Exhibit in this hands on linocut printmaking workshop led by artist and art educator Leah Shuck. This workshop is designed for artists of all skill levels who want to create original linocut prints in time for the June 27 PrintX submission deadline. Leah will guide you through the process of designing, carving, and printing your own linocut artwork with demonstrations and one-on-one support throughout. 


    Materials Information:

    All participants will receive access to shared carving tools, water-based printmaking ink, paper and traditional hard linoleum. If you prefer to work with soft-cut linoleum, you will need to bring your own.

    Come learn the beginning steps of working with acrylic or oil paint and create colors from a limited palette. Develop an understanding of how to blend paint in a realistic style while being encourage to explore your own personal style.

    Come experiment with monotype! Combining painting and transfer techniques, the process of monotype creates a unique, one-of-a-kind print. Different from making editions of identical prints, monotype is the most painterly and freeing among printmaking approaches, creating exactly one single print with each plate. Explore texture, color and design variations easily and quickly. All materials included.

That's what Raku pottery is all about.  This three week course will focus on wheel and hand building raku pieces that will be fired during the last class out back in our raku kiln.       In this fun, two day workshop, we will hand build a planter inspired by our favorite animals. We will use template shapes and pinched pots to construct our animals in the first session. The second session will be adding glazes to our planters. All materials included.
