We offer classes for adults, teens and children.  Our class sessions run Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.

    This course is designed for cartooning students who have taken Cartooning Basics and want to progress (taking Cartooning Basics first is suggested, but not necessary). Class reviews the basics and adds depth to the discussions and techniques with group projects and exercises designed to make the budding cartoonist think outside the box. Please bring: pencils, ruler, eraser, one thick, one thin Sharpie marker, white sketch paper, color pencils and color markers to class

    Have you ever told yourself “I can’t draw”? This class was created to dispel that myth! Anyone can learn to draw, with the right tools & the right instruction. Over the course of six sessions, I will teach you the basics of how to use pencils, charcoal, and other dry media to create a drawing from observation. The class will focus primarily on still life, the most approachable subject when learning to draw. You’ll surprise yourself with how far you can come in just a few weeks!  Materials list can be found below.

    Shibori is the art of folding, twisting and clamping cloth before dyeing to create intricate patterns. In the advanced Shibori workshop, we will explore binding, "kumo" (spiderweb), "kanoko" (rings), "ori nui" (fold stitching), "mokume" (tree bark stitching) and "karamatsu" (Larch tree stitching). These advanced techniques will require the use of needles & thread to sew & bind the silk scarves. The sewing techniques will be practiced first before you stitch, bind, and dye two scarves.  All materials included.

    This class will cover the entire lettering process from pencil sketch to inked drawing to digital* finish. We'll start with the basics of drawing individual letterforms and work up to creating your own hand lettered illustrations based on briefs given in class each week. Chock full of tips and tools for creating concept-driven pieces, there will be in-class demonstrations and one-on-one instructor critiques. This class is perfect for beginners wanting to learn the basics as well as intermediate students looking to dive deeper into incorporating hand lettering in their professional work. Please bring materials to work in class each week: drawing paper, graph paper, pencils, fine and broad tip markers/Sharpies, tracing paper and ruler.

    *Digital processes will be taught, but are optional for creating work for this class. If desired, students would need access to a scanning app on their phone and Photoshop.

In this workshop you will create up to 4 eggs depending on the intricacy, and learn about the symbolism of the designs and colors. Hot wax is used in this class.  All materials included.

    Have you ever wanted to try painting but were too intimidated? Intrigued by color but reluctant to commit to the cost and care of oil painting? Whether you’ve dabbled in paints a couple of times or have never touched a brush to a canvas before, you will feel more confident & capable once you have explored the basics of color theory and familiarized yourself with materials and techniques while completing a painting from life. This five-session course will take you from creating a color wheel and learning about value and saturation of colors, to mixing and color matching, to painting a still-life. Don’t ever tell yourself you “can’t” do it–you can, with the right approach!  Materials list can be found below or if you have your own supplies, feel free to bring them to class instead.

    Acrylic paints, studio or student quality, 2 oz tubes in the following colors

    Alizarin crimson, cadmium red medium, cadmium yellow, yellow ocher, ultramarine blue, cobalt blue, pthalo green, hooker’s green, prism violet, burnt sienna, burnt umber, raw umber, mars black, titanium white 

    Painter’s palette (wood, acrylic, or disposable pad)

    Selection of 8-10 brushes, both natural bristle and acrylic, in FLAT and ROUND. Ensure you have a variety of sizes between 2-16, including a flat brush between size 16-30 for broad strokes and underpainting. 

    9”x12” canvas pad (paper)

    3-4 stretched canvases OR hardboard canvas panels, between 16”x20” and 20”x24” (feel free to go slightly larger if you prefer to work big)

    Learn basic techniques of rug hooking using both wool yarn & wool strips. You’ll design your own canvas to create either large coasters or hot pads.  The differences between primitive and fine hooking will be discussed as well as regional traditions.  A wide variety of colors available to complete this project.  (Approximate project dimensions: coasters, 4"x 4" & hot pad, 7" x 7")  All materials included.

    Create a hand built basket with strips of interwoven clay. Students have the option of uniquely finishing the top of the bowl with clay decorations, adding a handle. and selecting a glaze that will be fired on the basket.     We're taking painting on Yupo just a little bit farther. All skill levels welcome, even if you have no idea of what Yupo is. Bring your imagination, your sense of play, watercolors, brushes, a Sharpie and your painting clothes. We will be pouring, dropping, stamping and stenciling watercolor on 9 x 12 sheets of Yupo plastic.  You will learn ways to control the flow of paint and even more ways to allow the paint to be joyously out of control. Yupo paper included.

    We're taking painting on Yupo just a little bit farther. All skill levels welcome, even if you have no idea of what Yupo is. Bring your imagination, your sense of play, watercolors, brushes, a Sharpie and your painting clothes. We will be pouring, dropping, stamping and stenciling watercolor on 9 x 12 sheets of Yupo plastic.  You will learn ways to control the flow of paint and even more ways to allow the paint to be joyously out of control. Yupo paper included.
