We offer classes for adults, teens and children, including Summer Art Camps for children.  Our class sessions run Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.
Please check back as we update our class offerings seasonally and occasionally add additional classes!

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF CLASS REGISTRATION DEADLINES.  If you wish to register for a class after the deadline, please contact the NHAC Office (412) 364-3622 or visit the center at 3432 Babcock Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.

All students will receive individual attention and will work at his or her own pace. This class will work on building up your drawing skills through observational exercises that will improve your realistic drawings.     What’s more fun than creating a mythical creature out of clay, or building a fairy/gnome garden. Dragons, unicorns, gargoyles, mermaids and other creatures will be the focus of this mystical camp. We will draw, paint, create masks and mushrooms, using clay and more.

    In anticipation of our Raku event in the fall, hand build or wheel throw pieces in one of two ’Just Raku’ Workshops! No prior clay experience is necessary for hand building.     The fused glass pocket vase is a unique wall or window decoration with a small opening formed during the firing process that will hold water and those special flowers. This is a unique way of working and firing the glass to create a pocket. It becomes a beautiful addition to your home. No experience is need to work with the glass. All materials included.

    New molds!! Learn to create stunning fused glass pendants, earrings and pins. Beginner and experienced glass artists can make up to 8 pieces of wearable art.     Make a special animal inspired clay planter for your annuals, succulents or other plants in this two session workshop. You will be using hand building techniques to create your animal planter in the first session and glaze the planter in the second session. NO CLAY EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.  All materials included

    Have you always wanted to design and create your own invention? From machines to games to musical instruments, each workshop is different! In this 2 session STEAM workshop, use the engineering process, trying out different tools and methods to make your final product.  You will also have the chance to try different robots such as Sphero's and Dash  Boys AND girls welcome!  All materials included.

    Create two beautifully dyed silk scarves for yourself or as a special gift. Learn how to fold, twist and tie the scarves based on the Japanese method, Shibori, to create unique colored patterns in the scarves.  All materials included.

    Create a hand built basket with strips of interwoven clay. Students have the option of uniquely finishing the top of the bowl with clay decorations, adding a handle. and selecting a glaze that will be fired on the basket. The baskets will then be ready for your decorated eggs, candy, fruit, etc.  All materials included.

    Ages 12-Adult

    Have you always wanted to learn to draw a portrait from life? In this workshop, artist Olga Brindar will demonstrate the basics of facial proportions, how the skull relates to the facial features, and show a demonstration of portrait drawing from start to finish. In the second half of this workshop, students will draw a live model, with hands-on feedback from the instructor, followed by a positive and supportive end-of-workshop critique with instructor and peers. Instructional hand-outs will be provided.   Materials list can be found below.
